Announcement of "LC30" LCD Glass Substrate

-- Introducing Green Glass with Lower Heat Compaction during High Temperature Process and Light Weight --

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

AvanStrate Inc. ("AvanStrate"; Address: 2 Chitose-cho, Yokkaichi-shi, Mie, Japan; Representative Director: Jun Makino) hereby introduces a new type of glass substrate, "LC30", suitable for manufacturing low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) TFT that requires processing at higher temperature when compared to amorphous silicon (α-Si) TFT used in manufacturing LCD panels.

The characteristics of "LC30" are as follows:

In manufacturing LCD panels for devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs, which require higher precision compared to conventional display panels, the use of LTPS-TFT instead of α-Si-TFT is becoming more prevalent.

On the other hand, the glass tends to shrink due to heat compaction during the heat treatment process used in manufacturing the LCD panels. The manufacturing process for LTPS-TFT requires a higher temperature compared to the manufacturing process for α-Si-TFT. This increases the heat compaction rate, which may potentially result in an increase in product defects from gap in pitch, etc., due to alignment problems.

With the newly introduced "LC30", AvanStrate successfully reduced the heat compaction rate by approximately one half when compared to our conventional products (as measured by AvanStrate).

In general, in an effort to reduce glass compaction, the specific density of glass tends to become higher. However, "LC30" achieves lower compaction rates while keeping the specific density at approximately the same level as that of our conventional products. Because of this, there is a reduction of deflection during the manufacturing process as well as a stable thermal compaction rate. Further, it will contribute to reducing the weight of the LCD panels overall.

Additionally, there is a rapid trend in pursuing thinness and lightness of end-products such as smartphones, and in responding to such trend, a so-called "slimming (chemical polishing)" process is conducted after the "pasting" process during manufacturing, and "LC30" is designed to take into consideration the efficiency of such "slimming".

It is expected that smartphones and tablet PCs will become higher-precision and higher-resolution products and that LCD panels with a resolution of 500ppi will be available on the market in a few years. AvanStrate's "LC30" is a suitable product that can contribute to the acceleration of the development of such high-resolution LCD panels.
